Born on Long Island, New York, and raised in Connecticut, Dan Campolieta began studying piano at an early age and began playing the organ in middle school. Dan received bachelor's degrees in organ performance and music education from the University of Connecticut in 2008. He studied organ with Larry Allen and Angela Salcedo, as well as masterclasses with Paul Jacobs and Marie-Claire Alain. Dan studied composition with Kenneth Fuchs, and has taken private masterclasses with Ēriks Ešenvalds, Alice Parker, Chen Yi, and Steven Sametz. He studied jazz piano with Earl MacDonald and has played in masterclasses led by Wynton Marsalis, Chick Corea, and Lynn Arialle, and has performed with Joel Frahm, Jimmy Greene, Charles Neville, and Steve Davis, among others.
From 2007 to 2015, Dan served as organist and associate music director for Asylum Hill Congregational Church, a large, musically active church in Hartford. In 2015, he won a national audition and accepted a position as a pianist with the United States Army Band, "Pershing's Own," in Washington, D.C. where he is currently the piano section leader for the U.S. Army Chorus. He often is called upon to arrange music for the Army Band and Chorus and has had several arrangements performed for the nation’s leaders and at the White House. He has produced two albums of original works as a performer/composer: 2012’s Guided Imagery, and 2018’s Poems, Prayers, Images and appears as a sideman on a number of albums of varying styles. He is published with Galaxy Music Corporation, a division of ECS Publishing and Hal Leonard.
Dan has been invited to perform organ recitals throughout the country, including at the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia, PA and the West Point Cadet Chapel at the United States Military Academy, and his music video of Bach’s Toccata in F Major has received over 150,000 views on YouTube. He has played at national venues including the Kauffman Center, the Kennedy Center, and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. A lover of new music, Dan has premiered works by Rufus Reid, Bob Morris, Osnat Netzer, and Steven Sametz and played piano on the recording premiere of Morten Lauridsen’s chamber work Be Still, My Soul, By Still. In his spare time, he enjoys running and obstacle course racing. He lives in DC with his wife Christen, a singer and choral director.
